Scope of Services

Scale and scope of services is to include but not limited to the following responsibilities, duties, and deliverables:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Working with CATV systems;
  • Maintain and repair aerial and underground transmission systems;
  • Repair or replace faulty cables, power suppliers and amplifiers;
  • Performing wiring, high quality installation, troubleshooting and repair support for CATV/communication systems;
  • Experience in CATV plant, new and rebuild, implementation and build, system sweep, setup and associated documentation for as-built package;
  • Desire to learn new technologies as they present themselves;
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings;

Requirements

  • High school Diploma;
  • Minimum of two years of CATV experience with Television transmission cable systems;
  • 1-3 years Installation, Maintenance, Testing experience;
  • Basic understanding of equipment such as Splitters, Aerial and Underground cable lines;
  • Clean Drivers Abstract
  • Valid Drivers licence
  • Clear Criminal Back Check

Scope of Services

Fibre Technicians are involved in all facets of fiber splicing including cable preparation, termination, fusion-splicing, testing and troubleshooting.

  • Well versed in fusion splicing machine technique
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, confined spaces, isolation
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding atmosphere including, but is not limited to: carry, raise and climb a ladder, carry, lift and handle heavy equipment (manhole covers, cable reels)
  • Self-disciplined, motivated and organized

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Splicing, testing, and troubleshooting of fibre sites and links
  • Documenting and reporting on completed telecommunication work
  • Maintaining project and telecom safety documentation
  • Inspecting fiber routes and hub sites as preventative maintenance
  • Ensuring all attended sites are clearly labelled
  • Locating faults and mobilizing resources within minimal time to counter fault
  • Reviewing engineered plans and blueprints
Experience Required: 
  • 2+ years Fibre Optic splicing experience
  • Technical training considered an asset
  • Previous telecommunications experience and testing for improved experience
  • Experience using FO troubleshooting tools (i.e. OTDR, Mass Fusion Splicing, etc.)
  • Experience with electrical or working around power
  • Engineering experience considered an asset
  • Preference given to those with additional experience or FTTX / FTTH project experience
  • Field experience in outside plant (OSP) operations
